The Bus is Back! by vegan busdriver

Bus parked at Porcupine Hills Farm for the winter.

2009 was a transitional year for the Vegan Bus. We were often frustrated by mechanical difficulties, mainly having to do with the brakes and brake lines breaking, true to their nature. We were thwarted from bringing the bus to a planned July 4th event in Philadelphia and then the Farm Sanctuary Hoe Down in August. We still attended by car, and out of these adversities we grew stronger.

2009 is the year we formed a non-profit called Evolvegan to fund the bus, Vegan Radio, and other projects that combine art, media and outreach. We put together a really great board of directors to help us face the challenges of the future. We also got to get the bus out on the road in October. We were filmed by the Supreme Master TV for a documentary clip, and handed out vegan donuts and propaganda at the Ashfield Fall Festival (view the photos here).

Once the weather got too cold to run the bus we took it off the road and stored it at board member Heather Bargeron's farm, where it is (hopefully) sitting now. Founder and president Derek Goodwin migrated to New Orleans for the winter to form a southern base for the project. Not one to waste any time, he soon became the New Orleans Vegan Examiner and joined in helping organize the New Orleans VeggieFest. He is planning his return in May to begin working on upgrading the bus inside and out for a planned tour in July.

PROPOSED VEGAN BUS JULY 2010 TOUR:

The Vegan Bus crew will also be making an appearance at the Veggie Pride Parade in NYC on May 16th. Unfortunately they won't allow the bus in the parade...

Stay tuned for updates on the tour, fund raising events and other shenanigans as the warm weather returns to New England and the bus wakes from hibernation!

4th of July Vegan Bus in Philadelphia! by vegan busdriver

The Vegan Bus will be heading to Philadelphia this Fourth of July for our first road trip of the summer. We are teaming up with two different Philadelphia groups, Public Eye: Artists for Animals and Vegan Drinks Philly, to put on two very different events. During the day we will be in Clark Park with Public Eye's Kid's Club to have a vegan barbeque along with kids activities that teach compassion. The second event will be for adults, as we meet up with Vegan Drinks at the New Harmony Vegan Restaurant

Kids Club Vegan Barbeque July 4th from 11:00am-3:00pm

Join the Vegan Bus and Public Eye: Artists for Animals for a down-home vegan BBQ with hula hoops, lawn games, musical instruments, and art projects. The Bus will park at Clark Park, a lovely setting in University City with trees and a playground. Please bring a vegan/vegetarian picnic lunch, blanket/lawn chairs, and drinks for your family. We will provide additional items (veggie dogs, burgers, etc.) for the BBQ! Friendly dogs are welcome at Clark Park.

Thanks to Lightlife for donating 96 vegan burgers to us for the event! Coincidentally, 96 is the number of animals one person can save each year by going vegan... Lightlife's headquarters are in Turners Falls Massachusetts, only about 1/2 hour from the home of the Vegan Bus!

Vegan Drinks 4th of July Extravaganzaa from 6:00pm-11:00pm

The Vegan Bus will be meeting up with Vegan Drinks Philly at the New Harmony Vegetarian Restaurant for a vegan dim sum feast along with BYOB drinks. The event costs $20 and a portion of the proceeds will go to The Vegan Bus and Public Eye: Artists for Animals. The restaurant is a short walk from great spots to view fireworks, and the bus will be parked nearby for the bus-curious.
